Steve has over thirty-five years of architectural experience and now practices as a building code consultant, consulting with other design professionals. He participated in the adoption of the new International Building Code and California amendments making up the 2007 California Building Code. Mr. Winkel is co-author of Building Codes Illustrated, published by John Wiley and Sons. The book is an illustrated guide to the use and interpretation of the International Building Code

This is a fast-paced brief introduction to the changes between the current 2001California Building Code (based on the 1997 Uniform Building Code) and the new 2007 California Building Code (based on the 2006 International Building Code). The new code has been published and goes into effect throughout California on January 1, 2008. The course will focus on the fire protection and life-safety aspects of the code.
