Revit User Group: Mission Critical - Navisworks for Architects

Navisworks has long been a tool within the construction space, but Navisworks has tremendous benefits for architects. This benefit is increased when Architects are part of a Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) team. The lecture will provide insights on tools and workflow processes that have been used by architectural firms to decrease headaches, increase communication and dramatically reduce those construction request for information (RFI). Navisworks is a multi-faceted tool and the lecture will provide information on how Architects can leverage this tool for their greatest benefit.

Join moderator David Haynes, AIA, LEED AP, Director of AEC Services for this special Monday user group. David is a registered architect and LEED accredited professional who previously had his own practice and was President of a commercial design-build construction company for 15 years. A graduate of University of Arizona, he has worked as an architect, contractor, developer, educator and national construction manager for solutions - including Revit Architecture, Revit Structure, AutoCAD Architecture and Navisworks - for clients across the United State involved in the design and building process.

Navisworks 2011

Autodesk Navisworks products deliver project review software for 3D coordination, 4D planning, photo-realistic visualization, dynamic simulation, and accurate analysis. You can create a whole-project model by integrating design and construction information, including complex building information modeling - collaborate, coordinate, and communicate more effectively to reduce problems during design and construction. Navisworks is incredibly versatile, a key tool for projects like the UC Davis: Maurice J. Gallagher Hall and Parsons Brinckerhoff: Presidio Parkway.

Revit User Group: 3D Printing for AEC

Join Ideate Sales Director John Souza and Application Specialist Rahul Verma to learn about how architects, engineers and contractors can benefit from adding 3D printing to your practice. There are distinct advantages to adding 3D printing as a design tool, especially as a complement to BIM software like the Autodesk Revit portfolio of products. John and Rahul will provide an overview of the available technology for 3 D printing, along with case studies for architectural firms and service bureaus who have implemented the technology successfully, plus specific Autodesk Revit workflows.

A recent article on designbuild-network.com highlighted how firms can boost their efficiency with 3D printing. Click here to view the article.

John Souza, Ideate Sales Director, has a BS in Industrial Technology from San Jose State University, with a concentration in manufacturing. After working in the mechanical design and engineering services fields for 10 years, he started selling CAD software in the mid 90's. John has been selling Autodesk products since AutoCAD release 10 and currently is responsible for the Ideate Civil and Government sales teams.

Rahul Verma, Application Specialist, has more than 12 years experience with Autodesk products. Rahul graduated from San Francisco State University's Multimedia Studies Program with an emphasis in 3D Arts and helps AEC professionals bring their designs to life with visualization software and 3D printing.

Revit User Group: You're Proposing That?!

As a Design Review Commissioner for the City of Lafayette Bill Marquand, AIA sees a lot of conceptual design work cross his desk. In striving to make his own Revit projects communicate a “looseness” more suited towards the Design Review process Bill has developed several techniques that he has agreed to share with us at the upcoming East Bay User Group. Bill is currently employing a combination of Revit, Photoshop and hand-drawing to develop his presentation documents and is interested in discussing with the group other methodologies.

Architects and Designers interested in representing their Revit projects during the early design phases in a way that emphasizes design intent, over detail, are encouraged to attend.

Bill Marquand, AIA is a residential, commercial and preservation architect with broad experience in different building types. He has specialties in zoning “Lamorinda” as well as in Building Information Modeling. He is well versed in drawing production and computer modeling on Autodesk’s Revit software. In the late nineties Bill founded the Maybeck Foundation, which launched restoration projects totaling 20 million dollars and have just recently been completed.

Cut Revit Content Management Costs and Increase Productivity

Revit is a productivity tool of unprecedented proportions. Employing Revit to its fullest potential leads directly to better designs, lower construction costs, greater productivity, more manageable timelines, fewer RFIs and changes, and most of all better buildings. When architects and engineers achieve greater productivity and quality in less time, they profit more.

However, without proper controls, the cost of creating and managing your Revit content can be very significant. Join James A. (Andrew) Arnold, Product Manager, AEC/O SmartBIM Solutions for Reed Construction Data, for an enlightening presentation on shaving the costs of content management.

Who Should Attend
This presentation is intended for the CEOs, Partners, CFOs and BIM Managers of firms using Revit.

About the Presenter
James A. (Andrew) Arnold currently serves as Product Manager, AEC/O SmartBIM Solutions for Reed Construction Data, where he manages the SmartBIM Library and SmartBIM QTO, presently in development. Previously, Andrew served as VP Products for Tectonic Partners, a start-up that was acquired by Reed in 2008. Earlier in his career, he worked for Vertex Design Systems, a start-up where he managed the design and rollout of the Vertex Detailer, an architectural detailing tool, and Electronic CADalogs, product selectors and configurators developed for building product manufacturers. He has also consulted to large property owners in the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) area. Andrew received his Ph.D. in 2000 from the Department of Construction Management, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford University, where he was a research assistant at the Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE). He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Environmental Design, University of California at Berkeley.
