Several groups, including ABAG, the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC), and the Red Cross, are putting on a FREE homeowner earthquake retrofit workshop in Berkeley. It is being held at the Albrier Community Center, 2800 Park St., Berkeley on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. until noon. The principles and practice of effective earthquake retrofitting will be presented by the Association of Bay Area Governments, the author of Shear Walls, an Illustrated Guide, published by the International Code Council, and a former residential earthquake damage inspector for FEMA. The American Red Cross will have a display. In addition, the Structural Engineer's Association of Northern California will be talking about their joint effort with the City of Oakland to develop an earthquake retrofit building code.
