Architecture, a Continuum of Life
Mui Ho, Principal of Mui Ho, Architect in Berkeley.
Presented by Women in Architecture
Thursday 10/11/07
Mui will discuss how she manages to balance being principal of a successful architecture firm, lecturing at UC Berkeley and her personal life. She will also cover how the sixties opened the door for women and minorities in the architectural field and at the same time created disharmony both in the work place and at home. Women architects, like other women professionals, try to find a good fit in the workplace and also try to have a slightly less traditional home life. As she sees it, it has been a continuing struggle.
Mui will discus how the life model of always being in a rush is not effective, and can be exhausting. As she would put it, 'we must stay with our goal and know our strength and weakness. We have to redefine success and other societal values, and we have to be flexible to deal with the complexities of personal and professional life. More importantly, we need to create peace and harmony in our life'.
