A free residential earthquake retrofit seminar sponsored by the Association of Bay Area Governments will be held on Saturday, September 15 at Albrier Community Center, 2800 Park St., Berkeley, between 10 and 12.
The principles and practice of effective earthquake retrofitting, as well as recent developments in Oakland's multi-million dollar retrofit transfer tax program, which pays for retrofits designed by architects, will be presented by members of the Structural Engineer's Association of Northern California, Thor Matteson, a structural engineer and author of the only book on shear walls published by the International Code Council and a former retrofit contractor and residential earthquake damage inspector for FEMA.
