This free public event will explore principles of design, color, craft, and composition, showing participants new and novel ways to incorporate these ideas into their everyday lives and enhance their experience of urban living.
Throughout the event visitors can enjoy live music, fine wines, and gourmet snacks and a series of presentations on the practical aspects of urban living. Professional organizer Bethany Saint Clair will introduce the feng shui philosophy behind her practice and offer tips for creating spatial harmony in the home. Using one of the residences at 200 Second Street as a case study, consultant Suzanne Kozel will outline the principles of color selection and explain how to work with existing furnishings and art. After a discussion of how dense neighborhoods actually improve quality of life, 200 Second Street architect David Baker, FAIA will lead a guided tour of the building. And David Pierce, ReadyMade magazine contributor and principal of Ohio, the San Francisco based modern furniture producer, will explore the link between the dwellings of primitive man and the modern aesthetic and what the cave can teach us about minimalist living.
Tours of 200 Second’s model homes will be available throughout the afternoon.

12:30-1:00 p.m. The Feng Shui of Organizing with Bethany Saint Clair
Learn the principles of feng shui and how to apply them in your home. Bethany Saint Clair specializes in creating spatial harmony with clarity and purpose through her practice as a professional organizer with an emphasis on feng shui.
1:30–2:00 p.m. A Case Study in Color with Suzanne Kozel
Suzanne Kozel is a trained color consultant and interior re-designer — a designer dedicated to creating a fresh new look using existing furnishings, artwork, and space. Her presentation will introduce the idea of redesign and explain how to select colors, perfect your palette, and incorporate existing elements.
2:20–3:00 p.m. Better Living Through Density with David Baker, FAIA
200 Second Street architect David Baker, FAIA, believes that denser neighborhoods are more active, interesting, and safe places to live. Using some of his own work as examples, he'll describe the components of good design that make higher density better for all. After the discussion, David will lead a guided tour of the building, highlighting many of the architectural design moves that have helped make 200 Second Street so popular with other architects and designers.
3:30–4:00 p.m. The Quiet Cave: Modernism and the Primitive Impulse with David Pierce
Designer and founder of Ohio Design, David Pierce, explores the link between the dwellings of ancient man and the modern aesthetic, and how nature plays a pivotal role both inside the home and out. How do our most primal instincts influence today’s modernist revival? What does the cave have to teach us about the joys of minimalism?
