Integrated Wood Design: Advanced Techniques in Wood Frame Structural Design

New trends in wood building design - notably Building Information Modeling, Integrated Project Delivery and Sustainable Building Design - are motivating building designers to rethink their processes and technology. An Integrated Structural Design process that breaks away from the practice of component by component framing design to whole building modeling and design can empower structural designers to work more effectively in a fast paced, multi-objective design environment.

Participants will learn new techniques in integrated structural design of wood framed buildings using state-of-the-art software tools in order to:

• Achieve a more efficient and higher integrity structural design
• Improve collaboration within the members of the project design team
• Control project costs through earlier quantitative structural analysis and design
• Reduce construction waste through efficient use of traditional and alternative building materials

Energy Tax Benefits for Architects

Discover if you are an ideal candidate for Energy Tax Certification. Don McDougall, National Sales Manager for Engineered Tax Services will explain the EPAct legislation put in place by Congress. He will describe the certification process and the methods used to certify a building according to the EPAct, including information on components of the building that can be analyzed for certification (building envelope, HVAC and/or lighting). Don will explain who could benefit from the tax deduction and provides the steps necessary for an architect or other designer to receive benefits. At the end of this program you will be able to identify and explain all major parts of the EPAct and its certification process from beginning to end.

Don McDougall is responsible for Engineered Tax Services operations on the West Coast with some national efforts as well. Don is an innovator in the fields of valuation and tax-based engineering. He has contributed and pioneered many of the commonly-integrated services and components used in the industry. He has been providing cost segregation services since before cost segregation existed, having worked heavily in the field of investment tax credits (the depreciation services that pre-date cost segregation).

This introduction to concrete floor slabs will cover the causes of moisture related floor covering failures and the latest industry standard test methods. Learn where it all starts and why moisture related floor covering failures occur, new up to date ways to tackle moisture in new testing practices and the importance of including Concrete Slab Moisture and pH testing in project specifications.

Lee Eliseian is the President and Principal Consultant of Independent Floor Testing and Inspection, Inc. (IFTI). Lee has over 30 years of experience in the floor covering industry, specializing in national independent third-party concrete slab moisture and pH testing, floor covering failure analysis and moisture mitigation systems. Lee is a member in good standing with WESTCON Consultants Association, the International Concrete Repair Institute, the American Concrete Institute, the World Floor Covering Association, the Professional Retail Store Maintenance Association and the ASTM International Member F06 Committee on Resilient Floor Coverings.
