Build/Plan Healthy Communities

Come take place in this "problem" and "solution" conversation moderated by Robert Shurell presented by Regional and Urban Design Committee as well as the Committee on the Environment.

The "problem" will be presented by Sandra Witt, Alameda County's division director of Public Health, presenting the work she and Dr. Anthony Iton have researched about public health and environmental justice issues. This work speaks to land use patterns and demographics of who lives in each different kind of neighborhood.

The "solution" will be presented by Chris Bazar, who is with Alameda County Planning. He will present plans or planning proposals that incorporate smart growth ideas.

Topics discussed will include Senate Bill 375, how anti sprawl can help create healthy communities and the link between land use planning and air quality issues. Also, design and planning for affordable housing and communities. How land use planning can address the challenges of social and environmental justice and what social and economic aspects of sustainability are.
