The focus of this workshop is steam system efficiency improvement in the operation of typical systems. The course covers potential system improvement through steam generation efficiency, resource utilization effectiveness and steam distribution system losses. This US Department of Energy (DOE) BestPractices course, brought to you through collaboration with the California Energy Commission, introduces the DOE software including Steam System Scoping Tool (SSST), Steam System Assessment Tool (SSAT), 3E Plus; and the technical guide, Steam System Survey Guide; which are available on-line at

Process Heating Systems Assessments
Wednesday, Oct. 29, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the San Ramon Valley Conference
Center in San Ramon
Register:
http://www.pge.com/pec/classes/3303.htm
This class provides an introduction to process heating equipment for food processing and industrial uses (such as furnaces, dryers, ovens, heaters, and kilns). The course includes discussion of combustion and other heating methods, heat transfer in furnaces, waste heat recovery, commonly used process heating controls, and emissions from heating processes. This US Department of Energy Best Practices course is brought to you through collaboration with the California Energy Commission. In addition to hearing practical tips on process heating, maintenance, and ways to reduce emissions from furnaces, attendees will be introduced to DOE's Process Heating Assessment and Survey Tool (PHAST), a software which helps users survey furnaces and heaters, identify major energy-using equipment, set priorities for improvement opportunities, and assess available methods to improve thermal efficiency in an industrial plant.
