Al-Sayed practiced architecture in New York City for more than a decade before establishing his own internationally recognized firm. Though he is based in Phoenix, his work reveals the influence of his extensive travels and includes current residential and luxury resort projects in Arizona, Dubai, New York, and Utah. Al-Sayed's projects have been featured in the Smithsonian Institution's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum; the Design Culture Now 2000 exhibition; and the Max Protetch Gallery in New York, as well as in leading architecture and cultural publications. A 2006 recipient of the Academy Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Al-Sayed comes to SFMOMA for a discussion of his ideas, inspirations, and practice.
