Project Opportunity

From James Stehr, AIA:

"I learned of the following opportunity recently, and I urge any member interested to contact the Sandy Hathaway directly. I told her I'd send referrals her way.

PROJECT: REPLACE EXISTING CHILD CARE FACILITY IN CONCORD CA Prospective Client: Bay Area Crisis Nursery, Ms. Sandy Hathaway, Director; Tel: 925 685 6633 Services Needed: Site master planning, architectural design and construction documents plus soils-civil-structural engineering.
Schedule: Fast as possible.
Fees: None in cash. Need donated services in return for lots of publicity on this major charitable project. Project Site Area: 20,000 SF portion of larger 50,000 SF+ contiguous PUD zoned holding.
Location: Project Site: 1506 Mendocino Drive, NE corner of Clayton Road and Mendocino, Concord. Total PUD Land Area: West end of block bounded by Clayton, Mendocino and Modoc Court.

Existing Building Area: 3,700 SF

Project Description: The Bay Area Crisis Nursery is planning a "Miracle Make-Over and Blitz-ReBuild" of their existing facility to the point of total demolition of the existing structure and rebuilding it virtually matching the existing footprint. As-built drawings are available. The driver of this "Replacement In Kind" approach is the desire to avoid the need for a re-certification of the facility for this state-regulated use. The existing building is a 1-story, flat-roof structure with an addition that has settled, probably due to drainage problems, that has caused cracking at its intersection with the main building. Sandy has the blessings of the city for their project, and she's planning a media blitz as well.
