Extensive & Intensive Green Roof Design

Cynthia Tanyan, owner and principal designer of Mozaic Landscapes and Cathy Garrett, principal at PGAdesign will provide an overview of green roof design. Cynthia will mainly discuss intensive green roofs, roofs and an outdoor space for humans. She will also present an overview of historic precedents of green roofs, trends, benefits and life cycle costs. She will go over design considerations such as an analysis of how climate, site characteristics and building orientation effect design and the details of structural, waterproofing, drainage, site furnishing footings, pavements, soils, plants, irrigation and maintenance. These concepts will be illustrated in local case studies.

For the last 18 years Cynthia Tanyan has been principal at Mozaic Landscapes and has designed over 350 varied residential gardens throughout the SF Bay Area, including a master plan for a Stanford Lands horse park, a Native American sculpture garden and an extensive modern green roof.
